VEGAN ICE CREAM REVIEW: Alpro salted caramel and Madagascar vanilla

Due to the popularity of my review of the Oppo vegan very berry ice cream review, which can be found HERE, I thought I would share my thoughts on another vegan ice cream, that is a bit lighter. Alpro has different flavours of ice cream depending on the region where you live, and I reviewed their 360-range in an earlier post HERE.

However, for this post, I will review the “normal” flavours salted caramel almond and vanilla, which are available in most supermarkets in the Netherlands, I tend to buy them at the Albert Heijn. They are advertised as being low in sugar and do not contain artificial sweeteners (not that I care about that, but if you do, this is great option!). They contain around 57-62 kcal for a scoop, which I think is not too bad!

At first, I did not want to try the vanilla flavour, since I think vanilla ice cream is a bit boring. However, this ice cream is really nice. It is creamy and has flecks of vanilla in it. It is not icy at all, but not as airy or mouse like as the 360 flavours. I think I even prefer it over my previous favourite vanilla ice cream, Ola Swedish Glace. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of this (nom nom nom). I tend to eat this ice cream with a crumbled Oreo and some vegan whip; delicious!

The salted caramel flavour was an instant favourite of mine. The texture is just perfect, being creamy from the ice cream, with nice swirls of salted caramel sauce and crunchy bits of almond; what’s not to love! For both of these ice creams, I think it is best to leave them in the fridge for 15-20 minutes before trying to scoop them, I think that makes the texture even better! This ice cream doesn’t need any toppings, but sometimes I add some (toasted) almonds and some vegan whip, for an even more delicious snack!

I really hope you try this vegan ice cream and let me know what you think. If I had to pick my favourite ice cream and had to take into account the calories, I would say this is my favourite kind. However, if you want to indulge yourself even more, I would also recommend the Ben and Jerry’s vegan flavours (my favourites are Coconutterly Carameld and Cookies on Cookie Dough). If you have a different ice cream you want me to try, let me know!
